Russian President Putin Signs GMO Labeling Liability Law

Posted on Jan 3 2015 - 2:17pm by Sustainable Pulse

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the Russian Federation Code of Administrative Offences into law, including a new article establishing liability for the violation of mandatory requirements for the labeling of food products that contain GMOs.

Putin signed the new bill on the last day of 2014 TASS news agency reported.

The bill which was submitted by the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) imposes fines for vague or unclear labeling on food products containing genetically modified ingredients.

According to the bill, individual entrepreneurs could be fined up to 50,000 rubles ($890), and the products will be confiscated. Business entities face a fine of up to 150,000 rubles (over $5,300).

President Putin said in 2014 that Russia must protect its citizens from overconsumption of products containing genetically modified organisms. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev followed this with a statement that Russia has no intention to import GMOs, however there are still large quantities of GMO foods being imported in to Russia.

Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fyodorov believes that Russia must remain a GMO-free country. At a meeting of deputies representing rural areas organized by United Russia, he said that the government will not “poison their citizens.”

In February, a group of senators from Russia’s Federation Council introduced a bill seeking to prohibit the distribution and import of products containing GMOs in Russia.

According to the explanatory note attached to the bill, only 18 lines of GMOs are officially allowed in Russia at the moment. This is a far lower number than in other countries, as the Russian farming industry has long maintained extensive restrictions on the use of technology related to GMOs. The senators say that because of its WTO membership, Russian markets could import numerous genetically modified products from other countries, thereby destabilizing the situation.

Bolivian president Evo Morales was agaisnt GMOs when he got elected in his first term but I am not aware of any anti GMO regulations in place and contrarily there is many hectares of GMO soya being grown in Santa Cruz –

Obviously, Vladimir Putin cares a great deal about the health and welfare of his fellow Russians. He is to be commended in this.

As you can see, the Russian law requires that the GMO foods be LABELED. Labeling is all it takes to get these GMO “foods from hell” off the market. Who, in their right mind, would buy Genetically Modified Food ?

Looks like you don’t know too much about Russia.

Russia has no chemtrails. It’s not a crime to sell and drink fresh milk. Banks aren’t allowed to foreclose on families’ homes. Bees aren’t dying off. The government has small debt (12% of GDP – US is 105%). Lots of money in international reserves ($380 billion vs $60 billion for USA). Russia isn’t a police state. Putin has recently made it easier for Russian citizens to own and carry guns. No wars. All citizens are entitled to gov. medical care. A flat 13% income tax. Russia is continually signing huge multi-billion dollar international trade deals.

Of course, western mass media doesn’t tell anyone about these things, but if you take the time to look at sites other than western propaganda sites, you’ll see a very different Russia than portrayed by the NY Times or MSNBC.

What ivan wrote such disinformation i can’t even comprehend it!!! I am originally from Russia and after having lived in Canada for 6 years I am now back home. I have seen life in two continents very well. Russia is not at war with Georgia! Georgia attacked first in2008. Russia is not at war with Chechnya, it used to be in 90s but not anymore, now we are very friendly))) And Peaceful demonstrators are not imprisoned, it is such *****, they are allowed by constitution, but only peaceful…. The key thing is that Russia is not ideal, so is USA and Europe… There are some great wonderful people I have meet in USA and Europe but I am sad that people there are hopelessly being brainwashed and exploited by their governments and corporations. There is are problems in Russian, some corruption, but at least our government cares for its citizens. And never forget Russian people have noting against USA people in general, it is your government that has almost 1000 !!!! military bases in the whole world and tries to exploit every other part of the word, every other country for its profits!! And it is not because your government are so evil, but rather that they are also controlled by other elite people, some in USA, some are abroad and corporations! Bless us all!

          • james July 26, 2015 at 05:45 -

Cannot agreed more that USA is not longer for the people but 1% elite and major corporations having politicians on their payrolls. You can revisit how they bailed out banks, allowing banks to keep doing risky investment with customers’ money, and allowed them to foreclose (get more bank money back), and kick home owners out in drove….paid with more tax money that put us more in red (also due to wars, foreign aid, and other useless and wasteful spending). How absurd?

          To Ivan…

If you lived in Russia many years ago, what you say might have been true, except for the chemtrails. But Russia today is very different.

Jim Rogers was George Soros’ partner and is now a billionaire investment manager. He refused to invest in Russia for many of the reasons you mentioned. He changed his mind about Russia several years ago and now believes Russia is one of the best places in the world to invest because the Russia of the past is NOT the Russia of today.

Russian law forbids banks from foreclosing on principal residences and this causes big problems for Russian banks when mortgage aren’t paid. However, Russian banks have dealt with this problem by taking great care who they give a mortgage to instead of just throwing families onto the street like in America.

Recently, America refused to help their citizens in Yemen escape the war there but fortunately, Russian planes were able to save them and get them out of the country. It’s petty obvious who REALLY cares about people.

Yes, Russia is protecting its people from the GM food hazards that only dare be claimed by studies that do not survive peer review. This is the exact same concern over her people that Mother Russia exercised when she decided to wait two days to alert the citizens of Chernobyl to make sure the problem was real so as to not panic anyone unnecessarily and has nothing at all to do with a protectionist policy to safeguard Russia’s conventional crops because she never jumped on the biotech bandwagon.

Rediculous fine Monsanto for deceiving the one who bought it thinking it was food but it was planned parenthood instand abortion, vaccine genocide, a people killer. According to the bill, individual entrepreneurs could be fined up to 50,000 rubles ($890), and the products will be confiscated. Business entities face a fine of up to 150,000 rubles (over $5,300).
The products are a toxic poison more leathal than ebola virus that they cause ( roundup angent orange) needing a super fund desposal coffin for 100 years complete containment. Then another 100 years coffin…

Sickening to congratulate this narcissistic tyrant! On top of the countries he invades, there’s his countries treatment of the LGBT community and corrupt government.

Besides, I’m sure if he has banned them it is not out of concern for human welfare, but for ulterior motives.
