Putin: Russia Will be World’s Largest Supplier of Healthy Organic Food

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told the Russian Parliament that Russia should become the world’s largest supplier of organic foods, in a message released to the media on Thursday.

“Not only can we ourselves eat it, but also taking into account our land and water – which is particularly important – resources Russia could become the world’s largest supplier of healthy, environmentally friendly, high-quality food that has long been missing in some western producers,” Putin stated.

“Especially as the demand on the global market for such products is growing,” he continued.

As Putin said, it is necessary to have a nationwide approach on the issue and also by 2020 to fully meet the Russian demand for locally produced Russian food.

2015 has been a year of change in Russian agriculture with the Russian government announcing a whole new approach to food production and labeling.

In January 2015 Putin signed the Russian Federation Code of Administrative Offences into law, including a new article establishing liability for the violation of mandatory requirements for the labeling of food products that contain GMOs.

The bill which was submitted by the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) imposes fines for vague or unclear labeling on food products containing genetically modified ingredients.

In June, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich has announced that Russia will not use genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to increase productivity in agriculture, while he was speaking on Friday at a session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“Russia has chosen a different path. We will not use these technologies”, he said.

As a result of this decision Russian products will be “one of the cleanest in the world” in terms of technology use, Dvorkovich continued. A bill for a full ban on the cultivation of GM crops is currently going through the State Duma.

Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fyodorov also believes that Russia must remain a GMO-free country. At a meeting of deputies representing rural areas organized by United Russia, he said that the government will not “poison their citizens.”

Sue the FDA. They are one of the most bribed and corrupt organisations in the world.

    • Chris2244 December 5, 2015 at 19:59 - Reply

It is not only FDA, who plays the role in this entire process. Top level scientists, organizations, like Rockefeller Institute, and many others were involved in this CRIME of forceful redefining of our nature, in fact of our BODIES, in order to spread diseases and destruction, not only from inside, but from outside too. Chemical pollution paired with genetic one, is the best way to get rid of the UNWANTED. One should also add electromagnetic pollution for a complete finished task. So, PLEASE, all read Steven Drukers book: “Altered Genes, Twisted Truth: How the venture to genetically engineer our food has Subverted Science, Corrupted Government, and Systematically Deceived the Public” or another one: “Seeds of Destruction: The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation” by William Engdahl or another one by Jeffrey Smith: “Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods” or
just please go to NIH publications data base PubMed and read all the hundreds of articles when typing the keyword “glyphosate toxicity”. With hope that Amerika wakes up, before the total destruction of its soils and waters.

Russia’s Putin is smart and cares about his country and citizen. He has honest government workers, too.–to protect both land and people against GMOs.
Adversely, the U.S. has evil, greedy government workers taking bribes from large companies to pass laws to harm and to kill innocent people by not banning GMOs…simply because they want to depopulate the country and dominate the world.
Russia knows better to save and to preserve its land and people. It will be the #1 Dominating Country.
    Russia knows better

non gmo does not mean non chemical in fact the chemicals used in non gmo production are worse than round up and the BT corn used in non gmo production….get your agronomic facts straight folks so we can be more credible

    • Karen December 5, 2015 at 14:17 - Reply

Read the article thoroughly please … the heading states “Putin: Russia Will be World’s Largest Supplier of Healthy ORGANIC Food”. There are NO nasty chemicals used to cultivate organic food … so NO gmo + NO chemicals = AWESOME !!!

    • Lee December 5, 2015 at 16:57 - Reply

Jack, organic production means the use of no chemicals. Just so you keep your facts straight

    • Cody December 6, 2015 at 00:38 - Reply

No jack you get it straight. The article says going Organic which includes going GMO free. Organic comes first which GMOs are not allowed in organic. And no Organic is not worse then conventional.

    • DianneP December 10, 2015 at 02:29 - Reply

The article is about Russia growing organic food for Russia and export.
You are right that non GMO could be traditional crops that sprayed and most likely with roundup,
This is why we buy organic food that will not be sprayed with toxic pesticides. It was thought Roundup was a miracle because it was strong but marketed as safe. Organic is NOT sprayed with Roundup. You are wrong about GMO foods being safer than traditional foods.
You forget an important fact. MOST COUNTRIES SIGN CONTRACTS TO SPAY ROUNDUP ON BT CROPS at least twice. Along come SUERWEEDS, that cannot be removed even with machines READ ARGENTINA SOY.
That my man is a double jeopardy. Is seems a plant with DNA from roundup meets roundup spray in the human gut and leads to health problems especially for children.

Jack, take a cue from Mark Twain, “Get your facts straight before you distort them”.

I’d live there.. Pity nz has no vision to be organic.

I love President Putin and would vote for him as President in USA if he was here. My wife & I eat only organic right down to my peanut butter brown rice and everything else. It costs more but we’re worth it, don’t drink or smoke or any other vice that wastes money. Don’t have health insurance I’m age 64 almost and in good health no meds whatsoever.
Getting ready now to walk to the post office instead of driving, a good 10,000 step walk daily is good for the health. I also do Tai Chi and she does Yoga. Life is in the blood clean the blood because disease can’t live in pure blood. We also use Distilled Water for drinking & cooking, that is very important because chlorine & fluoride are killers.

This guy is brilliant. Taking over a global market without dropping one bomb is quite impressive. The US better wake up the world does not want GMO contaminated food. The shame is the US will keep feeding GMO produced food to its population. Capitalism at its best.

Sounds good but the man has no credibility. What Putin says and what he does do not always coincide. And, who’s going to check?

Congratulations Mr. Putin and Russia for looking after the health of the people and the land- organic what a great way to go.

I also admire your work to avoid World War 3 which the warmongers who want to profit from death are pushing.
I wish our politicians cared as much about their people as you do, but they bow to money and ego.

Most GMO is low on flavor to no flavor. Something has been doing something to food long before GMO to ruin it.

There are vicious tricks. They use GMO seeds in the USA allowed to sell as organic if raised organic.

I figure the Russians won’t do that, instead they will charge insane amounts of money for things. It appears they have not a clue how many poor Americans there are.

When non GMO costs much more it’s serious. There are no longer O’Henry peaches. These cost $6/lb. People lined up. They were so good you could eat one totally unripe down to the seed like an apple and it didn’t even disappoint at all. They were so good you felt satisfied as if you ate a steak but it didn’t sit in the belly as long.

The farm that got the peaches bought them as little trees and they had a situation where they lost all of the crop.

Where are they now? But it was a rare treat and so are heirloom tomatoes, unbeatable. I heard the seeds came from a Russian satellite and developed in space. Real food is actually so good there is no reason to eat meat if you can get it. People have been pushed off lands and not allowed to grow real food because they can’t afford it.

Right now we have very little food that’s this real.

This is a brilliant plan. It could make Russia a major player, and a major power. Russia could feed the world.

    • Carolyn July 22, 2016 at 23:34 - Reply

Yes and it won’t need to be ‘checked’ – it will very quickly begin to show in the health statistics.

I think the best way forward will be to focus on “safe and clean food” with agri practices aimed at environment friendly practices.

Science should meet traditonal approaches in achieving the
above goal. Biochar a wonder product discovered in the Amazon Basin may provide solutions. We have worked on this extensively. Those interested may approach me at [email protected]
