Russia must protect its citizens from the use of foods derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and this can be done in compliance with the country’s obligations under the World Trade Organization (WTO), Russian President Vladimir Putin stated Thursday.

“We need to properly construct our work so that it is not contrary to our obligations under the WTO. But even with this in mind, we nevertheless have legitimate methods and instruments to protect our own market, and above all citizens,” said Putin at a meeting with members of the Board of the Russian Federation Council.

He stressed that the market and citizens should be protected from substandard products. The consumption of these products continues until people see the consequences.

“We can do it, should do it and will do it. It is not so long ago that this was discussed at the meeting of the Security Council. We must act carefully to avoid prejudice to our obligations under the WTO, but it can be done,” echoed the President , noting that scientific and laboratory research should not be forgotten. Meanwhile, Putin went on, that control is needed of the use of GMOs and  “we can’t even 100% say how much goes into our market currently .”

“This is what we will do with the public, with experts , with senators , we will move in the direction of protecting our citizens,” the President of the Russian Federation said.

During the meeting, one of the senators noted that to date sales of GM seeds worldwide has totalled about $ 50 billion. “And the main owner of the rights to GMOs – the United States,” – he said. The Senator asked the president to take control of this problem, recalling that there was a bill to ban the import of GMOs.

Thank you Pres Putin for being the only leader in the world with genuine integrity and the courage to buck the corrupt fascist driven Global System, bent on destroying all the people on the planet and our precious planet along with it too. It seems clear the WTO does not care a continental about the interests of people across the world! That it is clear with profits and global control their single aim, the Big Corporations are on a global drive to systematically and SYSTEMICALLY poison us all. There are no longer doubts that Monsanto is destroying small farmers, controlling, dictating and hiding behind grossly dishonest practices and therewith killing agriculture globally. With regard to global consumers, no consideration should be given to labeling GMO junk — it should be BANNED ALTOGETHER with immediate effect as labeling perpetuates GMO’s existence, which a deathly blight on our world, will end up destroying us all.
No international trade organization has the right to dictate or interfere in the agricultural practice or seeds/food products legislation on imports each and every country provide to its farmers and citizens. It is the human right of every citizen anywhere in the world to be consulted by their Governments (as the servants of the people) when it comes to the importation of any controversial and or damaging imports such as GMO seeds or food products in any form and today increasingly, countries’ food and agriculture laws prohibit the import of GMO’s. With many countries banning GMO’s altogether, people globally and increasingly will no longer accept their governments sneaking in GMO’s through their back doors either. Informed, people today, revile GMO seeds and or products and are lobbying to ban these altogether in face of an indifferent WHO, the UN, HRW and all the many organizations supposedly not corrupted by big corporations globally, but all of whom no longer protect global populations or for that matter, the interests and increasingly more fragile ecosystems on our planet. Furthermore, people today are aware that pesticides/herbicides etc sold to unsuspecting rural armers by international agriculture giant corporations, such as Monsanto’s Roundup, has and continues poisoning land in every corner of the world. Roundup can even be picked up in a 5litre plastic jerry can from my local P&P supermarket in South Africa. What is happening to Bee Colonies all over the planet??? Can we afford that the wealthiest among us, constituting only 1% or 70million people, out of a total of 7Billion people, have the right to completely destroy our Planet while serving their own selfish, profiteering interests!? People Power is what we have and we should employ it and rid ourselves of those messing not only with our food, but our health and the future of Life itself. When the whole world is run by corrupt corporations owning all the large banking institutions globally, we should SHUT THEM DOWN!

I don’t claim to know half of what is going on amongst the countries and “powers that be”, but I will say a leader who grasps the importance of the food supply is someone who is NOT thinking he is the only one to answer to, God bless Putin and I pray that he and those he can direct take care that the USA doesn’t kill off the bees and future generation of humans due to the greed and ego of some individuals! I’m American and ashamed that the US has gotten to where it has with the idiots in the offices of power.

DITTO!!! With millions all over the world concerned about this travesty, how is it it remains a moot point in our “political discussions? Do they NOT know what’s going on in the “real” world? Or yes they just don’t care — they’re too busy spending their “corrupt $$”. I hope it buys them and their families lovely caskets!

President Putin stands up to defend the SACRED realm – the “Sub Genetic Realm”. Sub-nuclear and Sub-genetic are SACRED realms. “Science” is NOT a religion. Like a chain saw – it can be used to manage a forest or DESTROY it. It’s not the chainsaw (“Science”) it the person using it and their intent. Monsanto is owned by the “Illuminati Death Cult”. In the end it is very simple – Pro-Life – or Anti-Life. Mr Putin might have started work as a KGB assassin – but now he is making good on his karma (one hopes). The message is clear – Monsanto and others into GMO’s need to leave Russia ASAP or face DEATH… Go Puty Baby! Go! (I can’t believe I am cheer leading a “Statist” (“Head of State-ist”!) – but eventually it will all come right – One Planet – One People – One TIME.!

I have little to add to your comment Marlene. Just a note of thanks for saying it all for me & many others! Mr Putin is my favourite international figure for his consistent care & protection of his country & his refusal to be bullied by NATO & globalist banksters.

It would be good if the United States of America Inc. would do that for it’s people.

You think? Why is it NOT even being “talked about” in our political spectrum? It WILL BE soon, though with the up-coming political quandary. YEAH!!! Who will WIN? I’m embarrassed to be an American and would move to another country if it were feasible. Maybe there’s HOPE coming up, huh???

There is no room in this world for unscrupulous capitalism and its rich, ruling class in any form especially in the form of the Monsanto corporation and its allies both on Wall St. and in our government and in other governments of the world. To end the rule of these wrongdoers over the good majority of people in this world as we are its state and world citizens we must first petition the government and all of its constituent agencies to either reform, or do away with, the destructive policies and practices of such evil, profit and power-mongering companies. If this does not effect a satisfactory result, then these corrupt companies and their allies must be brought to justice, sued in court for a redress of our grievances. If this lawful approach fails, then both bad business and bad government must be done away with in their entirety by the actions of its subjects and through whatever means are available to this, our, currently oppressed and plaintiff community, by organized violence, or by non-violence, the latter approach being the gentler though less effective of the two,

Revolution can be had either way, and perhaps, by many other ways, but talk itself for its own sake will do very little. Political action and confrontation is the only solution to this problem facing us all. This means that we as state and world citizens all need to.become activists if we want to undo the wrongs of the decadent rich and our currently too powerful establishment. After all we the people are the government, are we not?

What Vladimir Putin is doing to the GMO makers is right and true. So, enough talk! Stop talking and do something! Do what’s right for the common and universal good in this, our only world. Educate, organize, and show your will, and your wit and wisdom to the powers that be, and take them to task and down some, maybe completely, from their pedestals once and for all. Monsanto, Syngenta, DuPont, Pioneer, Nestle, Bayer, Dow, Massey Coal, and while you’re at it, why not The Federal Reserve, Wall Street., The Rothschilds, The Rockefellers, Rupert Murdoch and the Syndicated Corporate Media, The Military Industrial Complex, both American and world weapons producers the Petro-chemical industry, and etc., and too, don’t forget all their lobbyists.Too much? Well, maybe one group at a time.

Best of luck to (us) all. Long live what is right and true and good in this world!

Finally, I have something in Mr. Putin that I admire – he is putting the health of his people ahead of the interests of big Agriculture.

I have to wonder however – when did the World Trade Organization take as its mandate to shill for the multinational GMO business interests of huge agri-business?

History will likely show that one of the worst and most just plain deluded groups ever to be mistakenly allowed to have power will be the World Trade Organization. They need to do about 200X as much thinking as they do currently, and about 1/1,000th of the recommending.

WTO – sit on your hands until you have something useful to contribute!
