Nestlé Shocks Monsanto with Non-GMO Product Push over Consumer Demand

Food giant Nestlé announced Tuesday that they will grow their non-GMO range of products due to the growing demand from consumers, in a shock to the Biotech Industry in the U.S..

Nestlé stated Tuesday; “The company is broadening its product offerings to give consumers more options with no GMO ingredients and identifying these products with the SGS-verified “no GMO ingredients” claim.”

“Nestlé USA understands that consumers are seeking choice and many prefer to select products with no GMO ingredients,” they continued.

This announcement comes after in April Nestlé announced that it is removing all genetically modified ingredients (GMOs) from six of its top selling ice cream brands, in a move to “evolve with consumer preferences”.

On Tuesday Nestle also announced that its Buitoni refrigerated pasta brand is leading the refrigerated pasta category in committing to ingredients without GMOs.

From our heart and home at Casa Buitoni, the Buitoni brand has always strived to bring high quality, delicious pasta to dinner tables,” said Erica Starrfield, Buitoni brand manager.

“We know that more and more consumers want to understand where their food comes from and how it’s made. Our move to no GMO ingredients and shorter, clearer ingredient statements are part of an ongoing effort to create pasta and sauces that families and individuals trust and continue to enjoy,” Starrfield concluded.

Buitoni sourced and replaced new ingredients for its recipes and conducted an SGS audit to ensure the process – from the sourcing of ingredients through production – is consistent with the “no GMO ingredients” claim.

Thank you Nestle for showing you care about the health of your customers and this will promote loyal consumers.
I am opposed to your plan to take over the water systems of the world put your money towards cleaning up the planets water systems, stop promoting child slave labor and you become a company the consumers will love and respect…this is a start i have great respect for this latest decision

Just what I intended to say upon learning about this news. This is surprising, unexpected but very welcome news that Nestle has decided to greatly increase the number of its products containing non-GMO ingredients & become a leader in this area.

This is contrary to its record regarding water, trying to claim as its own, bottle & sell water from lands that belong to sovereign nations. If it stops doing that, I can go back to being a consumer of Nestle’s products.

You’d be a fool to think Nestle or any other company truly cares about you. The move to non gmo is strictly to meet consumer demand and maintain their market share. It’s always and only about the money. We vote with our wallets. I stopped buying all nestle products. I guess they noticed and they didn’t like it. Too late for them however as I now have all new brands non gmo.

Although this is a small step in the right direction it still does not deal with the problem with glyphosate which many farmers are spraying on non-GMO crops.
When we eliminate glyphosate we effectively eliminate GMOs.
You cannot easily grow GMOs without glyphosate.

Are you saying that farmers are spraying NON GMO crops with Roundup Ready pesticides?

Hi Caroline, I am From Brazil, unhappily we are the champions on agrotoxic consume. Like your country we use to produce commodities which are meinly grains like soy, corn and cotton here. Well, GMOs or not, these dominant monocultures can only exist with the application or spray tons of poisons. Not only Gliphosate, herbicide. Poisons for insects, fungy, etc. After the adoption of GMOs you multiply by 5 or even more times the spray of glyphosate and other dangerous herbicides like 2,4D or Amonium Gluphosinate, Antrazine and so on. David is tottaly right. There exists now GMOs for all kinds of herbicides. We need to stop GMOs and I can guess that even without Gliphosate the GMOs will persit, just because Gliphosate is the top used but it is not alone. So we need to fight against Gliphosate and against extensive monocultures. All we need is Agroecology and organicas in our fields and tables. Cheers!

Yes! They are spraying wheat with glyphosate as a dessicant prior to harvest. Snopes will tell you its not true, but it is. Bought out by the elite, probably. Much like most media these days.

Glyphosate harms ur gut bacteria, 80 % of your immune system. Covert medical knowledge, as I was never taught this in Nursing school. I know MD’s are also not taught.

Thank you Bush Sr. for pushing deregulations for corporations. It has been a corporate free for all ever since.

After witnessing the declining health in America for 20+ years and researching what is causing it for almost 4, it is fairly obvious; Americans are polluted. Sadly, we are worth more sick.

but wouldn’t the glyphosphate (roundup) kill the non-GMO plant? isn’t that what it does? the roundup? It kills plants right? except GMO roundup ready plants…. what am I missing here? if farmers are using glyphosphate on their non-gmo crops how do they survive?

    • Paulo Ramos November 2, 2016 at 21:02 - Reply

Hi Elvis! They spray Glyphosate in non GMOs too, for sure. They do it before the plants of soy came out cleaning every other vegetable from the area, but the tolerant species also remains. Any way, the spray before to clean and at the end of the cicle as a desiccant to provide all the soy dries at the same time. In the begining and at the end of the crop season. In the case of the GMOs they apply Gliphosate 5 to 8 times during all the crop cicle. This is what is happening. With the surgense of Gliphosite tolerant plant species it got worse. Now they apply a cocktail of different herbicides at the same plots. terrible. As I pointed out to Caroline here, only with Agroecology and organic biodiverse production we may turn to aonther direction, biosafety, which is not working as should in our countries.

Nice they can label non-GMO, but if it isn’t organic I wouldn’t buy it anyway.
